Who needs Blizz promo pets, when you can get one that even fewer people have. This parrot is Blue and Teal with Purple tipped feathers, and a yellow stripe along the wingspan. It is easily the most evil looking parrot available.

So damn happy right now and this parrot is so beatiful! It's the largest macaw and the largest flying parrot species in the world and are captured and sold to extremely high prices. Offering g for one pet, g for two. Many help, but no drop. Apparently, some guy got it to drop, didn't know what it was, AH'd it for cheap to some guy who's reselling for 10kg. He's on Alliance side, and the economy on the Ally side of the Blackwing Lair realm is dead. A Horde DK was farming Booty Bay rep by killing pirates, and he told me he wasn't even looting the mobs.
Well, I offered him the same deal, and he started looting. After to kills total, or enough to get into unfriendly from rock bottom hated , he got one to drop! I've never seen this pet until now. No one is stopping you from grinding for this birdie, but if you prefer to keep your sanity, I'd recommend waiting for a situation similar to mine to present itself. I had no idea of the rarity, of either of these items, but luckily, I saw the hat in the AH, for an insane amount of gold. I decided to look it up, and found out how rare the parrot was as well. I got both these extremely rare items, without even trying, and did it in the same night. I don't really know anymore how many I killed so far, but I'm guessing it's closing around the 10k border. Very, very easy grind as a level 80 shadow priest, I love this pet so much and it was totally worth it. I was honestly expecting something a little more soul-crushing based on the comments here and what friends have told me who have tried to farm the pet, but all you need is some free time and determination to run pirates down with a steamroller for a few hours.

This was going to be the "final boss" of my pet grinds I have farmed every single rare pet that drops from mobs and was putting this off until last because of how hard I thought it would be and I wasn't expecting it to be easier than getting the oozeling, which took me roughly three days on and off to farm.

Exact same models, colours etc. Dropped for me on EU-Thunderhorn after about 8 kills on the beach, couldn't believe it i had to pinch myself. I had spent a couple of hours previously a month or so ago but i always expected that i would have to buy this one if i ever wanted to finish my collection.
Good luck to everyone farming this one and to those who might think i'm incedibly lucky to get this on my 8th kill, i too have done my fair share of farming such as 12 hours fishing for the sea turtle mount since the latest patch came out without success. My advice is to just go to STV when you have nothing better to do or are waiting for a raid, etc and just kill a few.

Luckily I always check the auction house pets available as a reflex now because last night I saw it the third time listed for only g. I don't even remember how much it was listed the previous two times except that it was over 5,g each time my buyout limit.
I didn't even wait to pinch myself before hitting the buyout button! For everyone that says it dropped for them really fast, that is great and all Not helpful for me though as I farmed for this parrot and the whelps for years with no luck whatsoever.
My advice to other collectors is to keep trying to farm it but also check the auction houses every time you are near one. With summer coming up, the odds of it showing up underpriced should only increase. Good Luck! An expensive pet, but one that will be with you a lifetime. Today it finally dropped when I wasn't actually looking for it I was looking for snuff for the BB quest on my 39 druid. This was one pet I never expected to get "accidentally" nor with a level appropriate character.
Edit: As a pet collector myself, I was very tempted to use the pet, but decided to throw it on the AH for 25k Alliance, Bonechewer based on the comments posted here, figuring it wouldn't sell, but knowing I wouldn't be heartbroken if it did, for that price. Lo and behold, 8 hours later it was sold. AH fees aside, I walked away with 23,g from this drop.

First, I went into Zangarmarsh and after 2, kills and 4 days I went crazy on the third day and killed that day and the next I got my Captured Firefly! About g made from vendoring stuff. Then, I went on a whelp trip, getting all 4 in 1 week. The Crimson took kills Lucky me , the Azure took , Dark 1, kills, and the Emerald took kills. All in all I ended up about g richer from vendoring stuff and the silver they drop.
I moved into Eastern Plaguelands to get my oozeling, and after 3, kills, oozing bags, and 1 week, I got my Disgusting oozeling. Made g from that trip. Was doing the 'Snuff' quest, and it just dropped on a random Bloodsail Mage. Now I'm trying to debate what to sell it for, as I was under the impression it sold for a high amount. However, this pet requires dedication of a whole other league. While the other pets will drop if you're fortunate within a few hours, and close to the thousand kill threshold, the Hyacinth Macaw will take FAR more work.
I believe my final count was around hours farming, and around 25, Bloodsail Pirates killed. It finally dropped for me last night, off a Bloodsail Swabby.
All I can say to someone who wants to farm this pet is I played a Shaman, and ran a small circle counter-clockwise over the beach, Water Walked glyphed to the boats, and killed everything I could. I was specced Elemental and using PVP gloves for the range increase to shocks. Because that's all I did. I casted Frost Shock like a billion times. It's enough to one shot anything there if you're in decent gear.
Instant Ghost Wolf and Reverberation are very helpful if you're planning to farm this seriously. In conclusion, I would like to apologize to the low level questing population of Stranglethorn Vale on the Bloodhoof-US server. You are now free from my iron-fisted rule over that questing area. I was leveling an alt in Stranglethorn and had to kill pirates, halfway through my quests, I looted a pirate, and lo and behold, this pet dropped. I sent it over to my main the second I got back to Booty Bay. This is one of my favorite pets, if not for its beauty as it stands, then the bragging rights. Fellow pet collectors will usually I've met some who didn't even know it existed know how rare it is when they see it, while others will usually doubt its rarity Someone in a battleground once tried to tell me the White Tickbird Hatchling was rarer.
Edit: This pet should totally be connected to a feat of strength, am I right? I looked it up here and on wowwiki before doing anything with it. Eventually I listed it in the AH for 20k and am still waiting for a buyer, but the more I read about it, the more I think I may keep it! Comment by Collectors be warned. This is NOT an easy pet to get. It is easily one of the rarest, if not the rarest item that is obtainable in the game. Average time it takes for people insane or foolish enough to attempt to get this beauty ranges from anywhere between 10 to 15k kills.
Patience is a virtue when it comes to this. Also, if you're attempting to get one of these bad boys yourself, there are a few things you should do to make this less painful: 1. Get water walking potions. The ships contain a ton of pirates at least spawns per ship , and water walking makes it much faster to get from ship to ship without a lot of downtime.
Auto loot is your friend. Keep it on at all times, it reduces downtime significantly. Clear out your bags of anything you wouldn't use immediately. Try to keep your bag as empty as possible before farming to reduce trips and once again, downtime. Pace yourself. Don't try to farm it for hours or more a day. You will get burned out very quickly. Good luck and grats to anyone who gets what I believe is the rarest pet and item in the game.

A few days back i started farming rep and items to prepare for the insane achievement, hearing that you didn't actually have to keep your status at honored with bloodsail to gain the achievement i altered my route to just farm to honored in BB and then farm the bloodsails to exalted to get a shot at the hyacinth and first mates hat at the same time as i worked on getting the cartel's rep up.
I have farmed alot of vanity pets such as the oozeling, all the whelps and im still working on the firefly so i knew what i was getting myself into.
Also considering the wicked ammount of mobs i had to kill to reach exalted would in it own be a stiff sitting or two. This combined with knowing that i probably wouldn't even see the darn bird or hat drop during that farm anyway, i stocked up greatly on materials to ease the farming. You know what im talking about; The essential cokes, energydrinks, crisps. The things that yells "Hey, im sittin' here for a while! After about hours the item i thought i'd never see drop suddenly revealed itself in the corpse of a swabber on one of the boats.
There i was, stocked up for the most insane farm ever. And the parrot drops in a miniscule ammount of time! Now it feels like i accomplished what i sat down to do, and the motivation is gone to proceed killing. Im happy anyway, some people get lucky.
