The cdi is one of the most refined cars we've ever had. On more than one occasion I've had to actually prove it's a diesel to folks that been in it with me. Plenty of power and good economy considering it's a 3. Deleted member Guest. I was going to throw in a random suggestion of the Ee, but then realised they only just came out. With my Petrol V6, if I press the gas a bit, it's very gentle acceleration. If I want to be pushed into my seat a bit, I have to go over half pedal depression and it'll drop a gear or two, then you're away. If you floor it, it goes nuts obviously, starting at about 4. Basically any kind of brisk acceleration, is preceded by drop downs. In short, very good. The E would just accelerate from any speed as you opened the throttle, whereas the SLK would scurry down the gear box first and then go.
By the time the SLK had hit its stride, the E would have disappeared down the road. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. PXW said:. Yes, for me this is one of the cars real strengths - the massive torque gives really good midrange response and acceleration without having to boot it.
Bluegnomes Active Member. The cdi is quiet, refined and pretty economical I find it very good on long runs now on 52K and average of 38mpg , with plenty of in gear pull but best with the gearbox in sport. I think that the petrol would be a very smooth car to drive if you can find one.
If all the diesel negativity continues then the next car will be a ee or a e I'm getting the impression that in my petrol V6, flooring it is a frequent thing as there's no power unless you do.
The diesel is all about brute force, and it's much more relaxed and sedate because it can be. I'm pretty much sold, I've got to shake off my prejudice of diesels. I'm hearing it's one of the best diesels to have, even from people with E63s and people who describe themselves as petrolheads. Another plus is it'll be perfect if I ever decide to tow a caravan or trailer. Towing long distance wouldn't be ideal for a petrol that needs to be wound up for the torque needed. That broadens the market tenfold then.
I can start looking for the perfect combination of other things now the engine is pretty much sorted.
Last question I think, what is the engine called in the CDI model? First off the CDI felt faster, but a rough comparison on the same bit of road showed the CGI to be fractionally quicker. But getting in the petrol version a day later was a revelation.
It was even smoother, and of course noticeably quieter when cold. Both cars were quiet at cruising speed but the CGI felt a bit more refined throughout. But after all that, maybe it was the exhaust note during acceleration that sold the petrol engine to me! Satisfying without the intrusiveness of the V8 AMGs which is great for sportier drivers. Having chosen the petrol version, I've continued to be impressed for five years.
Even the fuel economy is impressive, returning around 38mpg on a decent run. Drive Team Drive Team. Toyota channels the past with retro-inspired campervan Sun 14 Nov. Sat 13 Nov. Previous Electric. Is the 4 lakhs premium paid for the diesel worth it?? I have done a few calculations and found the petrol to be cheaper. Imagining i will own the car for 5 years and would have done 1,00,km n also speculating that the huge subsidy on the diesel to be lifted.
Finally the verdict. Petrol or Diesel?? The CGI gives a mileage of about in a combined cycle in the real world conditions but this may reduce in a city like Bombay where traffic is pretty much at a snail's pace, and if your running will not be too high on the C-class then get the CGI which will now also have 7G-tronic while the CDI gets the 5 speed box for now.
One of the main advantages of the cdi motor is the torque but than the new cgi petrol engines are equally fun and nothing will beat the pleasure of a high revving petrol engine and the cgi motor is in a league of its own for its class of cars.
Another advantage cdi has is that you can fill it up anywhere but one tank of bad petrol and u will see some knocking.
Also do if panorama roof etc is not important I recommend you get a good bargain on the pre facelifted car they are giving good deals, Lastly, believe me the extra cost on diesel may or may not be justified but do wait until tomm for the new prices and see what the real difference between the two is.
I have not included the mileage of CDI as I do not know anyone who has it, but I'm sure someone on the forum can shed more light on that. Petrol or diesel I can assure you the car will make you smile everytime, and the facelift is wonderful esp. The interior and do check its steering wheel its the finest thing to hold. Last edited by SL-E : 31st August at I am going in for the new face lifted car.
I have spoken to the dealer and will be test driving the new car soon. The double panoramic roof is great and also nice selling point. Last edited by GTO : 1st September at View My Garage. I would suggest you go for diesel. I know there is a premium but it will workout to be cheaper when you consider the resale value of the car.
Petrol cars are dying breed in our automotive industry. Since performance is not important, why not look at the C CDi instead? It should be similarly priced to the C, or marginally more expensive. Will this car be financed? Resale value was i other parameter that i forgot to consider and with this included the petrol might not be that cheap after all. And the difference between diesel and the petrol has been reduced by 1L in price for the new face-lifted model.
But i am still waiting for the official price release.
