They can also live a very long time. A lifespan of 45 years is possible. The Tomini tang is one of the smaller sized tangs. These tangs can be purchased at a small size and will take time to grow into an adult. They are considered to be semi-aggressive with other tangs but they can be kept in a smaller tank size of 75 gallons. One of the only tangs that live in that sized tank. This is a topic that is commonly discussed within the aquarium hobby.
Many people believe that a fish will grow to the size of the tank they are in. This is not true. The truth is that aquarium size does have a factor on the growth rate of the fish. Fish that are kept in smaller tank sizes may become stunted. This means that they do not grow at the normal rate and size for its species. If that same fish is moved to a larger tank, it may experience a boost in its growth rate as it becomes comfortable in its surroundings. The idea of a fish growing to the size of the tank is a misconception of the fact that tank size can affect growth rates.
So need multiple sources for this before I do this. So please give me your experience, starting size, end size, and length of time it took for the growth. Pics would be amazing if you have them! Mine has gone from about " to " in about 1. Would it be logical to say that the bigger they are the slower they grow? It would be like humans where the little infants grow really fast and somewhat slow down when they are toddlers until they get to be years old.
Why not wait to get it until you have the "big" tank? I was suppose to have my "big" tank 5 years ago, still don't have it -- life changes. And of course, the health of your environment, no matter how good, is an unknown to public aquaria. LFS will only take fish they can sell. The fish frequently suffers and dies long before a new and appropriate habitat is obtained. Aquarists with this mentality should find another hobby. After all, what is the point of our home aquariums? Guilty pleasures, a home decoration, an educational instrument. I'll will have to get rid of my tank in 3 years anyways so as long as a small " tang can live and grow comfortably in my 4' 75 gallon reef for 3 years at the most, than I'm fine.
Please try to give me as many first hand experiences as you can, thanks.
