Yes, you're learning an important lesson about virtual storage. You need to take snapshotting into account when sizing. No doubt. To be fair, this is mostly a result of needing to be a file server first, and being stuck with backups that don't utilize snapshots anyway. Future storage expansions will keep this in mind, however.
